From the videos on tt players using the Japanese penhold (Jpen) like Ryu SM, Y Kaii etc and Chinese penhold (Cpen) like Ma Lin, Wang Hao etc, I get the impression that Cpenners seem to be able to loop/smash to a larger degree of angle (or wider) more easily. Let's take an example of a ball coming to your BH, and you step around and use FH to loop to the opponent's BH (that is a cross-court left-to-right loop). Now, for a shakehanders, he/she could typically loop to the opponent's BH corner of the table easily, but apparently to me that Wang Hao and Ma Lin are able to go even wider to the side of the table. Same goes for right-to-left loop - is this an advantage of cpen as compared with a Jpen or is it due to the skills of the individual player and not related to the grip the player used ?
