The Butterfly Tenergy is a whole different rubber. It is Japanese. The Butterfly primarily developed Tenergy to impress the Chinese. The Tensors are German, and they are different from Japanese rubbers in feeling and hit. The ESN did not have any idea Butterfly would come up with something like Tenergy. Right now, the ESN is focusing towards Tenergy like rubbers.

I have written about this a while back in the blog. The Tensors added more speed to the game. That was necessary at the time of speed glue ban last year. They have to add more spin. ESN is doing that now. I don't think ESN can make something exactly as Tenergy in feeling, but the new generation rubbers from ESN will have more spin to compete Tenergy.

What I don't like about this whole development is that the offensive equipments are becoming very smart. Whatever ITTF wants to do, the exact opposite is happening. With this development there is no good defensive equipments to combat this offensive. I would like to ask ITTF to approve frictionless pips. The players are still tuning and the trick pass the ENEZ. The speed and spin of offensive rubbers are increasing. Why the frictionless pips are left out in this game?

Yes, offensive equipments are getting more and more while defensive ones are getting nowhere.
In future the likes of Joo SH or Chen WeiXing will be the thing of the past with no indication what is defensive players in tt.

I also would like to see the return of the frictionless pips rubber to add "spice" to the variety of tt rubbers. Also to give the defensive players some choices against the offensive players.

While frictionless LP can't help a 1500 US rated player to quickly reach 2000, it wouldn't help the likes of Joo and there wouldn't be more world class defensive players because of it, but these rubbers are just pure fun for us tt fans. To get more players playing defensive style, it requires more playing spaces (perhaps outdoor), equipment improvement that can compete with Tenergy for example, and focusing on LONG rallies for our young players.

Robert S. from California is a 2400 rated player who plays with close to frictionless pips rubbers. It is hard to use, but if you know how to use it you can stop all these crazy and mammoth speed and spin balls.

I'm afraid where all these high speed rubbers are leading us to when there is no good defensive equipments. In my clubs I struggle against some of these new generation rubbers. It was not that bad last year when these were not available.

For the last few days I'm playing with TT Master Punto, one of the vicious long pips out in the market. I'm seeing some of the offense against me is ceasing. I have to play for another two more weeks and see it's effect. It has surely a whole of reversal of spin that any rubber I have tested - close to Dr.Neubauer Monster.
