paraffin oil

Not every paraffin oil will work. This is the one that's optimum, Lamplight ultra-pure.

Does it help remove the build up of glue on the sponge? You have told me about this before. Honestly I don't go to shopping as usual.

Does it have any smell? My wife is so allergic to smell, so I'm afraid to open in the house if it has any smell.

Yes it will help remove glue from sponge. It doesn't smell but once mix with the old glue there might be smell from the combination. I strongly recommend doing the degluing outside say near the back yard fence, a distance from the house if your wife is sensitive to smell. The good thing is that you can put the paraffin on and leave it there while you go to do other chores. Too much will harm the rubber somewhat (not too bad) and too little will dry out quickly. So practice and findout how much is best.

How much paraffin oil used to remove glue is very subjective. One has to do a "trial and error" to find out.

I understand paraffin oil can be used to tuned the rubber (of course this is contravening the ITTF rules on boosting the rackets).

729, have you used paraffin in the past?

Tunning with paraffin oil is not too bad because it's effective and cheap. The result is decent, doesn't really resemble speed glue totally but it makes the rubber softer and adds dwell time. Considering the cost of speed glue and Tenergy paraffin is good for everyday training. You can tuned a used rubber and makes it play like a tenergy. Of course, it will have to be air dried if you conintue to use it in tournaments. I also want to add that the po should be added layer by layer, allowing enough time between layers for the sponge to dry totally.

Another function of paraffin oil is for making the rubber flat, so that it can be glue onto the blade. When you speed glue or using regular glue on Tenergy the rubbers would curl up and makes it hard to stick to the blade. Applying the paraffin oil to the top sheet will make it curl the other way and so flaten out. The paraffin oil can clean, restore, make tacky of old top sheets too.

Cool.

I tried grape oil as well as coconut oil on a used rubber to see the doming. The coconut oil helps doming and the speed increases. I have tried this on TSP Real. After a while the rubber came to normal. I did not like the feel of the rubber - may be I was not allowing myself to compromise for a manually tuned rubber.

Some rubber are not very effective and others are more absorbing and suck up the oil like dry clay. I used po on Sriver G2FX and I can't tell the difference between it and the old speed glue, but results on other rubbers such as Chinese ones are less promising. One difference between speed glue and po is wet gluing is good but po needs to be dry completely before putting the rubber on the blade.

Yes, varghese. Coconut oil also can be used to tuned the rubber to add more speed to it apart from po.

ejunkie is right that not all rubbers behave the same with po. On old Japanese rubbers, it is more effective compares with Chinese rubbers. I believe hurricane has mentioned somewhere in the forum to try to use WD-40 lubricant on rubbers to make them more tacky, and increase its speed too.

Grape and coconut are not the only ones that work, I have heard others. If my memory is correct (I can't be 100% sure since it's been a long time) it's sunflower, orange/lemon peel's, extra virgin olive, ...and mineral oils. But the price may make it unusable. Take Eucalyptus oil for example, it's cheap in AU but expensive here at US. In addition, the amount need to tune for each oil is different than speed glue for gluing. I bought a 4 fl oz Eucalyptus oil for $10 at GNC and it can only tune a rubber 3-4 times. Not very practical!
