How do you adjust to a new table?

Postby ejunkie » Thu Nov 12, 2009 2:13 am

How do you adjust to a new table at a place that you haven't played before? I guess this question is more directed at people who plays a lot of tournaments and travels a lot. I have try some very different clubs and some of the tables (and lighting and spacing etc.) are absolutely a pain to try to make adjustments.

At one of our clubs, one or two the tables are many years old. Unfortunately I end up playing on that because of the large crowd we have. That day is a disaster day for me. The tables kills the spin on the ball, some balls jump up and I can't figure out what I can do.

I try to avoid the tables I don't get good bounce. My backhand chops are bread and butter to me. If I can't control that I'm a disaster.

Honestly, I don't know how to adjust. I try to avoid those tables. Sometimes can't.

Well, the ITTF rules stated that a tt table should produce a tt ball bounce of 23cm thrown from a 30cm height. This is the standard as require by ITTF.
But I believe there are plenty of old tables lying around in clubs which its propert has diminishes over time.

The questions was : "How do you adjust to a new table at a place that you haven't played before?"
In my opinion one would need to play a couple of stroke to check out the bounciness of the table as well as whether any spin will be affected by the table (for instance, table may have some wax, or oil etc on it).
1) Primary set-up : YinHe(Galaxy) 986 Sriver FX / Pluto
2) Spare set-up 1 : Japan LAK - CJ8000 / 799 OX
3) Spare set-up 2 : Palio T7 - White Shark / 729 FX

Playing a few strokes wouldn't help. Here is an example. I am killing players left and right on one table in one club. When I move to another club playing a different table (brand and age) my loop is effectiveless, simply not enough spin. :(
