Varnishing your blade?

Postby 729 fx » Thu May 14, 2009 12:53 am

Got a question to all : How many of you put a layer or two of varnish before gluing the rubber to the blade?

For me I normally put 2 - 3 layer of very thin varnish and let it dry for 12 hours before putting the water-based glue and the rubber to it.

Very good topic.

I put one layer of blade protector. I rarely use the watery varnish. The blade protector I use is from XIOM, and it creates a shiny thin layer of protection on the blade. I'm not sure is it really varnish. The water based glues have hard time sticking on blades irrespective of the varnish or blade protector being used.

Tommy Zai is an expert on sealing. He has invented some sealing which he does like 7 times on the blade. He may join the forum soon, so we can ask him.

My blades are either sealed in factory or don't require sealing at all. So I had never have to worry it. I have never had a single splinter problem.

For me, I use a few sprays from a can of polyurethane wood sealer I picked up from Home Depot a few months ago. Then I let it dry 12 hours as usual and glue it up.
