It's a hard job cutting the face of the blade to the size you want. A while back I tried to cut a blade. It was so hard because it had carbon layer too.

Darno, a table tennis junkie on this forum has some ideas. He has cut down a Butterfly Matsushita Pro blade to a regular size one.

Darno, could you please share what you have done?

someone from my club also managed to cut several of his blades... when i asked he said he did it with a simple handsaw... when i look bewildered he offered me to do mine if i just draw the line on the blade and had it to him...

i'm not good enough with wood works more so doing a small cut with a handsaw...

What blade did Darno cut? I wouldn't want to cut my blades because it change the balance too much even if the size and shape is better. You could end up not liking the feel and destroy the blade totally.

yeah, but you could also make it into a better one as well... no pain no gain eh? hehehe...
i guess for newbie there will be a trials & errors but after awhile it should be working better...

your reasoning is also another reason why i didn't try to do it...
but i have one blade which i'm strongly thinking about cutting... i'll be asking my friend who had cut a few of his blade to do mine...

Darno cut a Butterfly Matsushita Pro Special which has two layers of carbon. It is a tough blade to cut.

What I did is I traced the size head I wanted to use onto the MPS using just a sharpie pen. I used an old clean-cut rubber that was cut to a Ziom Control as a template. I used an industrial belt sander that I have at my work and ran the edges flat onto the sander. I used a 80 grit belt and sanded it down just enough to where I could barely see any of the pen mark. The only thing to be carefull of is to apply even pressure on the blade or else you may have one side of the blade that may be slightly larger than the other. The whole process took a good 3 minutes and it was done.

Before I started the whole sanding process I applied two layer of Joola varnish to prevent any splintering which appeared to help because I had no splintering at the edges.

I'll post some pictures of the belt sander and the blade some time this weekend.

The only reason I cut the size down of this blade was because the blade was an oversize Def blade and I wanted it be lighter. The blade weight went from 96 to 86 grams. It didn't change the feel at all and imo it made the blade a touch faster

Well, the feel is still the same but the balance would moved towards the handle unless you sand/cut the handle somewhat.

Thats very true about the balance shifting towards the handle, but since the paddle was oversize to start off with to me it felt much more balance to me. However I haven't played enough with it to really make a good judgement.
