Argentina Junior & Cadet Open - ITTF Junior Circuit
Isabelle Li (Singapore) on Sunday 20th September 2009, achieved gold at the Argentina Junior Open.
The signs were clear on the penultimate day of play in the Argentine capital that the defensive skills of the Singaporean, combined with the ability to execute a controlled as opposed to devastating forehand topspin, was a style of play against which no competitor on duty could really cope.
In the Girls’ Singles final, Slovakia’s Andrea Daubernova came as close as anyone but at the end of the day the sheer technical excellence of Isabelle Li stood firm. The score was 4-11, 13-11, 10-12, 11-6, 12-10, 11-4)

Similarly in the Cadet Girls’ Singles, Caroline Kumhara (Brazil) did pose some questions; she won the opening game but perhaps later wished she had not annoyed the Singaporean with her temerity. Having lost the opening game, Isabelle Li seized control to eventually record a definitive victory; she succeeded 10-12, 11-6, 11-1, 11-2.

At the semi-final stage Isabelle Li had defeated Joselyn Peralta (Ecuador) whilst Caroline Kumahara had ended the hopes of Maria Soto (Peru).

Andrea Daubernova partnering Shermaine Lam(Hong Kong), the duo won the Girls’ Doubles title defeating Karin Fukushima and Amanda Marques (Brazil) at the final hurdle with a score 11-7, 7-11, 11-4, 11-5.

Gold for a joint European – Asian partnership whilst in the Cadet Girls’ Doubles it was victory for Chile in an all South American duel with Katherine Low and Cristal Meneses defeating Karina Hayama and Caroline Kumahara (both from Brazil). Katherine & Cristal won with a score 11-5, 11-7, 13-11.
