The four last players representing the Pan-American continent made in into the qualification tournament. The players are Alexander Yao of USA, Rodrigo Tapia of Ecuador as well as Peru’s Maria Soto and Cristal Meneses from Chile.

On the boy’s side, the Latin Cadet champion, Pablo Saragovi represented Argentina.
Axel Gavilan, a player with long hair and high lobs, comes from Paraguay. Then there is the side-spinning left-hander from Ecuador, Rodrigo Tapia and Alexander Yao, representing USA.

From ITTF News:

"The United States of America swept to board in the team events at the Stag Canadian Junior Open in Laval; they concluded the first two days of play with all four titles on offer in their possession.

It was a quite stunning display from the young players from south of the 49th Parallel.

However, in the singles events on Saturday 22nd August 2009, the host nation fought back; especially in the Junior Boys’ Singles competition. Three of the young men to reach the quarter-final stage of the Junior Boys’ Singles event were from Canada.

Successes

“The 2009 Canadian Junior champion André Ho won four-one against Timothy Wang from the United States in a duel between power loopers”, explained Michael-Tai Nguyen, the Press Officer on duty in Laval. “Following the example of André Ho, Canadian Tony Liu also eliminated American contender Marcus Jackson in seven games; somewhat of a consolation for the Canadian juniors who will not participate at this year’s World Junior Championships in the Colombian city of Cartagena owing to the loss suffered against the American junior squad at last weekend’s qualification.”

Two fine performances by Canadian players but the best was yet to come.

“However, the biggest surprise of the day came in the form of Arnaud Roche-Nadon beating fellow Canadian and second seed of the tournament, Pierre-Luc Thériault”, enthused Michael-Tai Nguyen. “Arnaud Roche-Nadon did not make it easy on himself, wasting three match points in the seventh and also giving the second seed a match point; in the end, it was Arnaud Roche-Nadon that booked the third Canadian place in the quarter-finals.”

Those California girls

# Ariel Hsing
# Lily Zhang
# Natalie Sun
# Sylvan Guo
# Erica Wu

did exceptional well. We have to see more boys getting the titles.

Yes, it seems the girls are better than the boys at age (junior & cadet junior).
