Chinese made LP

Postby ejunkie » Tue May 12, 2009 6:29 pm

I have some Chinese long pips that I gave to an older player and twice it broke in one or two sessions. Are they really don't last long or is my friend doing something wrong? I gave him the Friendship 837 and Friendship 755. Each time the pips at the center broke after an hour or two. He is a close-to-the table player who hits and blocks with the lp. I am sure old guys don't hit that hard' at least he wouldn't have time to being so close. So what could he been doing that caused it? It must be the quality of the Chinese pips, right?

LP are not durable as short pips. I once used lp and after 3 sessions of play some of the pips fell off.

I believe your friend's opponent must have return his shot very hard and once the ball hit your friend's lp, it broke off.

I use only Japanese long pips. I have not seen a single pips breaking in my TSP Curl long pips until now. The only problem I had was I change the long pips every month. Since I play 4 to 5 days week, the pips gets really beaten up, so it loses its dryness and hardness.

I have used German long pips rubbers too - some two years ago. I have not seen its pips breaking.

In my opinion, it is the quality of the long pips that matter. In your case it might have been some imitations or duplicated. I have not used Chinese long pips enough to say an expert opinion. But I have heard about pips breaking story with many Chinese long pips.

I think it is a good idea to buy these long pips from authorized dealers. When such things happen you can take back to them and complain.

So far I've used Friendship 755, Palio CK531A, DHS C8 & now Globe 979 & I've yet to see any of the pips break. I usually play 2-3 times a week & one of my sparring partner is a power looper!

I'm a big fan of Chinese LP & Chinese rubbers! I will not buy the overpriced non-Chinese rubbers unless they lower their prices by 60-70%!!

2. BTY Grubba Pro - Double Fish 820 1.2mm & DHS C8 1.0mm

iuvtt, perhaps blocking is easier on the pips than hitting. Do you just block and what percentage do you hit?

I have used few 729 inverted rubbers like 729 FX. I did not like its performance and feel. The TSP makes a Chinese rubber called TSP Summit. It is made in China. I love it. So, I believe it is the quality of the rubber is the problem.

You have to check the sources where you are getting these long pips from. Some non-Chinese brands make the long pips in China. They go through extensive quality control. Try an official dealer of the brand and see how the quality is.

You should be able to block, hit and chop with long pips. Irrespective of brand, the pips become too soft after a while and the player can lost the control.

There are Chinese rubbers which are expensive. Look at Haifu Blue Whale III. It costs some $90. The price of the non-Chinese long pips is in the range $35 to $55. Yes, you pay some additional dollars to the brand, their technology and quality. I'm not saying all Chinese rubbers have quality problem, but there are.

I seldom use the pips to block unless situation forced me to do so. Usually I play away from the table & most of the time I chop (on both sides). I can attack on both sides as well where on the BH I either use the LP to hit or I just twiddle. Percentage of usage for the LP: about 75% chop & 25% hit.

Varghese, I forgot about the overpriced Chinese rubber such as the Haifu Blue Whale III. I wouldn't touch it let alone buying one!

I have asked many friends of mine who visit China frequently. It does not look like Haifu is a popular brand to the public like DHS. They might have put a price tag of $90 to Haifu Whale III by seeing a market in the United States.
