Classic Defender or Chopper

Postby 729 fx » Fri May 22, 2009 2:21 am

A friend of mine regularly against a person who is a chopper. Almost nothing but forehand (FH) chops and backhand(BH) chops. He is having very difficult time playing against this chopper. Sometimes he won but it is a really very difficult win. He was asking me any way to nullify a chopper who is adept at FH & BH?

Can someone give an idea on how to play against a chopper like this? Thanks in advance.

If the chopper doesn't attack, he is a paper tiger! LOL. There is no really pressure except those from your own. Take your time to select the right opponent to attack. Look for ways to surprise the chopper with the attack and try to finish him in one or two shots. Learn to push with him as he chop. Learn to control the push with locations (middle and corners) and length. Use different strategies such as loop and push, kill and drop shot, and serve (no spin) and kill (to middle). These are just some very common ways of playing him. Hope that helps.

729 FX, you are asking me to reveal all my secrets out :P .

Let us do any analogy first - ejunkie's post helped.

1. How close this chopper plays near the table? Is he close or or some feet away?

2. Does he use long pips?

3. Does he push? Does he use long pips to push?

4. Does he hit with pips?

Stroke analogy:

1. When you friend pushes to the chopper to his pips, what does the chopper does with the pips?

2. What are the plus and minus of your friend, like is your friend is a good looper to lift the underspin?

3. Does your friend loop or smash?

4. What is your friend's comfort zone? Does he play close to the table or away?

5. What does your friend use as equipment?
Blade: Custom
Forehand: XIOM Vega Pro 2.0 mm
Backhand: TTMaster Selection OX
