What a match on the second day of Europe vs Asia. Werner Schlager, Vladimir Samsonov and Timo Boll paved the way for Michael Maze, but the Dane choked in his game. Samsonov eventually won the tie-breaker match versus Li Ching.
While the Asian all stars won both matches of the first leg in Beijing earlier this year, Europe prevailed on home soil. The European all stars won the second leg of the Euro-Asia Cup Team event after a 2-3 defeat yesterday.
The eagerly awaited clash of giants between Boll and Wang Hao, however turned into a one-sided match as Wang Hao was playing listlessly, with no passion or concentration. While Timo Boll played flawless and moved light-footedly, Wang Hao made numerous errors and lost 11-6, 11-7 and 11-6. At this time Europe lead 3-1.
The last match between Gao Ning and Michael Maze ended in four games. The consequent 3-2 final result for Europe meant that an additional match was necessary to find a winner of the return match.
Vladimir Samsonov was challenged by Hong Kong’s Li Ching. The tall Belarusian prevailed in four games and secured the 51.000 Euros prize money for the players from Europe.
