Goma briefly

Postby ejunkie » Thu Jun 18, 2009 3:31 pm

Goma three star balls are made in China, Shanghai to be exact. I got some this past month to try. They were purchased in Hong Kong and is much cheaper than DHS. I want to compare them so that the next time I may buy more if they are satisfactory.

I find Goma stable when spining on a flat surface and hardness and feel very close to DHS, might be because they come from the same place. They color of the yellow is a little warmer than DHS. The ball overall plays very similar. It last very well also, but the quality control of the Chinese product is not the best, so I try not to draw any conclusion from playing just the few. For the mony I would buy Goma instead of brand name.

Is Goma a brand like Helix that manufactures only table tennis balls? Or do they make other table tennis equipments also?

As far as I know, a large percentage of table tennis balls are made in China. I was talking to a top player in American who have visited some of those factories. But the quality of these balls surely vary.

I did a quick search and couldn't find anything that they do besides table tennis balls. Someone was selling Goma on mytt.net:http://mytabletennis.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=3099 for the kind of price I was talking about, but he charge unattractive shipping cost. BTW Goma ball is not ITTF approved and doesn't label so.

Thanks for the link. That post is way old like 2005. I can't find the image of the product from one of those posts also.

The crazy now for me is CHAMPION ITTF Premium. There is a guy in the club using this CHAMPION ball for months. I can use a ball for like 2 to 3 weeks.

Was using some table tennis balls from China called Qian Xi which is CTTA certified but not ITTF during some of my practice sessions. It was printed on the box - used for table tennis training only.
Qualitywise, it is slightly under DHS 3-star balls but better than the 2-star balls (Note: was comparing with Double Fish 2-star balls). Out of the 3 balls I was using 2 does not rotate on their axis properly using the test as suggested by e-junkie in another post.

There could be many table tennis balls manufacturer from China with many unheard of names, but the important thing is to buy it with care as the quality control of most of the balls are not up to standards.

BTW, the cost of this balls is less than USD $0.18 per piece.

Not to be confused with Goma, I came across another cheap brand called " Gogo" that is in the same price range of what 729 fx talked about.
