ITTF going to approve/authorize blades

Postby varghese » Fri Sep 18, 2009 2:27 pm

I foresaw it a while back. I'm not sure whether I have written about it. The ITTF is going to approve blades also. The reason behind this move is cheating by players.

So now a lot of blades will be banned?

It is possible. Remember the incident of the Butterfly blade Kreanga was removed from the market. The ITTF did not like its non-wood content.

I'm trying my hard to get an interview with Adham. Looks like he is ignoring.

I guess players nowadays try to cheat with a blade content consist of other materials and not using 85% wood. I believe that was why the Butterfly blade Kreanga was removed from the market.
This creates unequal advantages due to equipment and not due to the players themselves.

I think they will impose stricter rules on the contents on the blade but will not certify the blade itself. as you saw with the glue ban. now there are a set of rules that outline illeagle glue types but ittf will not certify any new glues. i think they have a good thing going with the rubber certification and seem to have it finally dialed in with the new numbering system they have and the only downside i see if they were to certify blades is the amount of blades on the market and the fast advancements in blade technology will taper down because of the very strict and very costly certification process that is very timely as well.

Yes, I think you have a point there 2pong.

I also believe ITTF have a good thing going with the rubber certification (with the new numbering system that they have) and the only downside for certifying blades is the number of blades in the current market and also any advancements in blade technology will be reduced due to very strict and costly certification process which I think is timely as well. But what is the cost to ITTF to do the certification process? If the cost is very high, wouldn't this aspect will deter ITTF to postponed the blade certification to a later period? Your guess is as good as mine.
