Local Club Ranking

Postby varghese » Mon May 18, 2009 7:40 am

There are clubs that follow a ranking system so that if you look at the list of the players in that club, you will know who is the top player there. They use some simple ladder system. There are clubs who conduct round-robin tournaments every week. That is also way to know who is the best player in the club.

Are there any rating systems followed in clubs other than round-robin and ladder system?

We don't have such a rating system at our club, but we do go by the USTTA rating of the player, his record at the club, and the table at which he plays to judge the approximated ranking of the player. To me, rating tells half the story. It's how you play (having control of the match) and the ability to control when you win (winning in big tournaments) that's more of a sign of a mature player.
