Middle spot

Postby ejunkie » Sat Sep 05, 2009 2:52 am

In table tennis one of the hardest area to defense is the middle, the elbow area. Players that can move their body like a cat or dance like MJ are good at defending this area. What I saying is that you need a flexible body and mind and can not be rigid and not know how to turn your body. So dance your way out of trouble, grasshopper.

It is true for the shake-hander. But no problem for the pen-holder.

No, I am not suggesting that ph has no middle spot. ph do have a middle spot but to return the ball to a ph middle spot is akin to me like suicide since all a ph have to do is to hold his bat vertically and either loop or drive the ball back with speed.
In my opinion the "power zone" or strong area for a ph player is the middle and the right side. That is why, in general (of course there are exceptions) a ph weaker area is his bh.

You gotta move like Keanu Reeves in Matrixs dodging the bullets. Left and right don't defend just attack :D

Yes, for a ph, it is better to attack all the time; so a ph has to move in fast to position himself to attack from his forehand side.

The best at defending the middle is Waldner with his blocks. He practice a lot with Persson looping to his middle.

Since the middle is deem to be the hardest area to defend, one should practise returning balls from this area (either turning the body to the right and use FH or vice versa).
One can loop or block the oncoming ball. (there could be other stroke techniques).
All it needs is Practice, Practice, Practice.
