Moving Up Higher

Postby 729 fx » Mon Aug 03, 2009 3:39 am

Read all about the Indian Junior players who are moving up higher in ranking. Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Soumyajit Ghosh excelled on the ITTF Pro Tour in February at the Salwa Cup Kuwait Open and the Qatar Open where both recorded wins against more experienced opponents.

They are leading a new generation of very promising young players from India. Over the years there are many talented players emerged from India as can be seen during the Commonwealth Championships.

At the forthcoming Indian Junior Open, to be held in Indore from Tuesday 15th to Friday 18th September 2009, undoubtedly they will lead the host nation's challenge.

ITTF Junior Circuit
The Indian Junior Open will feature both teams and singles events in the junior and cadet age group categories.

Prize Fund
The Indian Table Tennis Association offers a total of 15,000 $ (USD) in prize money, with no tax deduction.

Surely, Sathya is a promising player. He is an excellent blocker. These players need regular International exposure to do well in tournaments.

What I'm afraid is that you may not hear about these players after a while. Sharat Kamal has a different history where his dad was a player, and he wanted his son to be full time tt player. There are so many companies in India who sponsor sportsmen like football or cricket. Indian Railways sponsor sprinters, runners etc... I have not seen them sponsoring table tennis players. I pray they give sponsorship to table tennis players.

Yes, table tennis is not an elitist sport in India unlike cricket.

Well, hopefully Sathiyan and other Indian junior players made it at the top echelon of players among the world tt players in the future.

There is a girl from my state in India excels in International badminton circuit now. The athleticism of some of these Indians need to be appreciated. This girls may become popular as her family is rich and does not need any sponsorship. That may not be the case with Sathya.
