Short Pips Rubber

Postby 729 fx » Wed Jul 22, 2009 3:21 am

I tried a short pips, the Stiga Royal (SR) the last 3 weeks on my custom-made cpen 5-ply blade. Thickness of rubber is 2mm and was impressed by this rubber. (Note : BH rubber is still PF4)

Speed - I would rate this rubber as being a fast short-pips. When I open up the bat, the higher throw was very obvious as the ball went high and long, but I adjusted to the high throw after sometime using a lighter touch.

Spin - very spinny for a short-pip as evidenced in serving and also my top spin shots were returned long. There was more on the ball as I thought my ball went long a few times only for it to dip on to the table.

Pushing - easy to push, just like other pips-in rubbers.

Blocking - direct, flat and very fast, yet also mostly under control (maybe because I am using an all-wood blade). I find the SR is easy to use for blocking as well as counter blocking/hitting.

Hitting/driving - very fast in the sense that anything popped up could be killed hard; I believe that this is where the SR excels in, when hit at full power.

So far I find the SR is better than my other short pips rubber, the 799.
