table tennis

Why do professional table tennis players occasionaly rub the part of the table that is near the net? I'm talking about the area that is near the net and the baseline. If you have watched professional table tennis matches it should be clear what I am talking about. I find it strange and I'm curious to know why they do this.

I think that part of the table is less used and played. So it can be touched with a sweety hand. Players like to calm themselves by touching cooler (than their body temp) objects like the table. Also there is no reason not to use the table to clean the sweat off the hand if the shirt is wet already!!!
