Improving game with Robots

I'm new here and want to know if anyone uses a robopong and finds it an effective learning tool.

Welcome Dick. I have moved your qn to the robots section.

I had a newgy 2040 robot before, and now I have a Butterfly Amicus. The robots are good way to improve game. But you should be knowing what you are doing. After you learn a wrong stroke with robot, it can be permanent to your muscle memory. So, I would suggest you consult with a local coach. Take few classes from him. Learn the basic and advanced strokes. Just like any other tool, there is effective way to execute a stroke against balls. After you jot down what you have to do, get a robot and practice every day for like 30 minutes to 1 hour. You then get back to the club, and now practice in real life against the players. Within 1 to 2 years, you can improve your game and reach a high peak - improve your rating too.

The newgy robots are affordable robots in the price range $250 to $750. The Butterfly Amicus has two heads, do can generate no spin ball too. iPong is a good affordable robot if your budget is less than $150.

Yes, using robot for table tennis practice is effective when you have a coach araound to guide you on the correct strokes. Then it is just practice, practice, practice with the robot.

I do agree with varghese'c comments.

I wish I had a robot & of course a TT table as well so I can practice my choppings! At the place where I play, most players are interested in practising with topspin players & only 2-3 are interested in lifting up my chops. Funnily enough these are the peoples who usually complain that they have some difficulty playing against choppers!

I have improved my game with robot a lot. There is no doubt the robots helps. In Parallel I attended training camps, and I learned what I wanted in strokes. It took a while but it worked.

The robot helps me in the area of testing the equipments. Without that, people wont have read a lot of my blog.

Hey Chopper!

A personal robot and table help to mold your game. At the club I rarely find people who can do what I want. The first robot I have bought was on a installment basis. I pay a certain amount every month for an year. You have to look at something like that.

Once you are a master in chopping, go top spinning from the backhand. This will make top spin players comfortable. And when the topspin get its peak, kill it will chop. To raise the level of modern defense, the same backhand where you chop should generate top spin also - either twiddle and loop from bh or loop with your forehand from the bh.

Varghese, I think I can afford to buy the table & robot (installments would be good) but it's the space that is the major problem.

I do play as what you have advised. I can play the topspin game with both my FH & BH (twiddle or just hitting my the LP) but it's the chop that I prefer. I like the old classic defensive game. I can practice topspins with the topspin players, FH or BH no problem but when it comes to getting players lifting my chops that's where the problems come in. Not many people want to lift up the chops!

Anyone try this ipong robot from another forum?

To my understanding it can only give backspin and top spin and cannot provide side spin balls.
