Warranty

Postby varghese » Sun Jun 07, 2009 8:58 am

Have you ever bought a table tennis blade or rubber, had some problem after a week or so and give back to get a new one. I'm talking about warranty. Does the stores you buy your products from say anything about the warranty?

So far none of the store in my country mentioned about warranty. You just have to inspect the blade carefully before buying as I think that the store do not give any warranty. In my opinion, the warranty should come from the manufacturer, not the store, since the store is like a distributor.

well, if all things equal... the shop should also gives warranty... perhaps a very limited warranty but still offers it... perhaps when buying the rubber and inspecting the rubber was separated from the top, or some other problem...

but if the products already used then it's going to be hard to claim warranty because we'll never know what the rubber has been going through although in a short period of time... who know what kind of "illegal" liquid has been applied on the rubber... or whatever...

thing is we don't always open new bought rubbers right away thus might not know about the problem until much later...

Table tennis equipment is expensive enough to warrant warranty, but I have never gotten them or expect to have them for some reasons. I think I have only seen it with Nittaku Acoustic. Is that right?

I don't know the warranty policy of brands like Nittaku or Butterfly. I have dealt with XIOM and TSP. I think the warranty policies are the same between different brands.

The XIOM has a good warranty policy. If the blade or rubber has any problem, the buyers can give back the products back to the distributor within two weeks and get their money or replacement.

The warranty surely comes from the manufacturer. But the distributors have responsibility to handle warranty for the buyers. But I think the distributors or stores don't bother about handling it for the consumers. When I talk about distributors, I'm talking about stores or local distributors who sell products to the consumers directly.

Next time, before we buy some equipments are we going to ask the store or the distributor whether the products have any warranty? Or questions like if I have a problem with the product, can I bring it back?

I didn't realize that I can get warranty for rubbers as well. I would have to cut them and try them to find faults with them, and not a single place that I bought before would give me money back after cutting I am sure. If you read the return policy of Paddle Palace for example, they only accept returning of items that's new and in original packaging within 30 days of purchase.

The problem is that the store or the distributor (in this case paddle palace) can argue that you have used a wrong glue or not proper gluing is not used.

I believe if the rubber has some defects, that should be returned irrespective of whether that is cut or not.

Yes, I, too, believe if the rubber has some defects, it should be returned irrespective of whether it is cut or not. But most distributor will always give the excuse that since you have cut it already, the warranty is not valid or wrongly used glue not specifically for tt rubber/blade which caused the defect.

As for blade, I believe there is some kind of warranty like if the buyer found that there is a chip/dent on the blade he/she should get the money back or replaced with another one.
