Water-based Speed Glue

Postby 729 fx » Mon Jun 01, 2009 3:50 am

After the ITTF banned speed glue with VOC, only the water or rubber based glue is allowed in ITTF sanctioned competitions.

Is there a water/rubber based glue equivalent of speed glue?

In my opinion, there may not be any water based speed glue.

Unless the glue has some chemicals, the rubber can't be processed to generate speed or spin. When you apply speed glue on the rubbers, the chemicals in the speed glue get into the sponge and the topsheet, create a kind of gas inside and that's where the rubber gets the speed and spin. I don't think the water based glues can do that.

However, I've heard of some speed glue available in the market which is undetectable by the ENEZ testing machine. These speed glue has a mild content of VOC in it, but it is undetectable.

One brand that became popular with such a speed glue is Haifu.
