Why table tennis?

Postby 729 fx » Wed Aug 12, 2009 1:16 am

What motivate you guys and gals to table tennis? Is it the equipment? Is it the sound of the ball "clicking" away from your bat? Is it your "bread & butter", that is your means to earn a living?

For me, I took up table tennis because I injured myself in badminton and other racquet games. What motivates me into this game of "ping pong" is the people. I can share/discuss and give/receive advices on matters relating to table tennis, be it the blade or rubbers used, the glue, ways or methods to play, the different style people employ when playing the game etc.

It is such an interesting subject to me and that is what motivates me into table tennis. Not because I wanted to win a game week in and week out, but to mix around, socialize as well as enjoy the game.

What about other "junkies" out there?

For me, probably the way you can COMPLETELY customize your equipment. From blade down to rubber down to the drops of glue. It's just a wonderful feeling that you know that your paddle suits you the best and you can always "upgrade it" (add better rubber). Another thing is the quickness of TT player's reflex's, it's simply awesome how players can think so quick to counteract the spin, speed, and placement of the ball.

Good topic.

Here is how I have jumped into this game in 2006. I had health problems. My Cholesterol level was high. It was a routine for me to go to work, come home, eat and then sleep. There was no motivation. I tried to adopt to Tennis, but it did not fit into my stamina level also it was hard to play during winter. The indoor places are limited, and it is expensive. I started playing table tennis again in 2006 to improve my health.

I would say health benefits is the primary benefits I see in this game. My metabolism has improved a lot after I start playing.

Table tennis is great way for a lot of people who is not talkative to communicate with other people. Though I am not one but I see a lot of quiet individuals attracted to this sport.

Yes, some of us play tt to socialize, some because of the opportunity to experiment with stuffs like blades, glue rubbers etc, some for health reasons, some for fun etc.

Well, you will find many different types of people attracted to tt, from the quiet type (majority, as I believe I belongs to this group) to the noisy type.
